CSA Member Agreement

This Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Agreement establishes the terms and conditions of the relationship between the CSA Member (Member) and Moshky Farm (the Farm).

OUR PHILOSOPHY

Moshky Farm is part of a farm incubator program at Big River Farms in Marine on St. Croix. We grow on one acre of land there, alongside a community of small scale organic growers. We also grow at two other smaller lots in Minneapolis. We invest in growing practices that work best with the cycles of mother nature. We work to protect our crops using proven methods such as efficient irrigation, and covering crops that are particularly susceptible to pests with row cover. By growing at multiple locations, we are providing our CSA a level of “insurance.” By joining our CSA, you are also investing in sustainable growing practices that help ensure our children and grandchildren will have access to healthy food, healthy soil, and a healthy planet.

All of our vegetables and herbs are grown using organic farming methods that go above and beyond organic certification standards. We never use chemical fertilizers or harmful pesticides/herbicides. All of our growing decisions are based on soil, environmental, and human health. We seek to grow food in a way that honors mother nature.

Members will receive notice by June 1 as to the start date of their share. Shares will continue for 16 weeks, barring unforeseen circumstances. If you’re looking to plan ahead, a tentative outline of vegetables available per month is in the product description for Vegetable Shares on our website at www.moshkyfarm.com/csa

BENEFITS

  • By becoming a CSA member, you share in the rewards of farming with us! We aim to bring you 10 to 15 organic vegetables per box each week, depending on season and availability. By purchasing a share, Members agree to receive a variety of vegetables chosen by the Farm.

  • If the Farm has a bumper crop, Members will share in the abundance! We ask for your favorite vegetables when you sign up, so that in the event of an excess, we can provide you with extra of your favorites. While favorites are not always guaranteed, we do our best to make sure every box has a wide variety of options.

  • We are expecting to grow over 50 different varieties of produce this season. You will receive a portion of the harvest from each item. If there is not enough produce to reasonably divide among shares, the product will be sold wholesale, or at the farmers market.

  • As a Member, you become part of the Moshky Farm community. In addition to fresh organic produce, each box will come with our favorite recipes for using the ingredients in your box, and storage tips to help you make the most of your box. CSA programs like ours offer unique access to your farmers— and we’re always here to answer questions! Whether you reach out via our email to moshkyfarm@gmail.com or on our website at www.moshkyfarm.com/faq, we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

  • Your purchase is also an investment in our sustainable farming practices. You are investing in soil health and community health.

RISK OF SUPPORTING FARMERS

  • By purchasing a CSA share from the Farm, you agree to share the inherent risks (poor weather, drought, floods, early frost, natural disasters, and crop failure due to seed, pests or weather)  and rewards (the abundance from a good season!) of farming with us.

  • Members purchase a “share” of the farm, which means you are entitled to a portion of the harvest for each week CSA boxes are delivered.

  • Be mindful that a midsummer box may be the fullest box, while boxes at the beginning and end of the season may be slightly smaller with less variety. As a CSA member, you are agreeing (and hopefully excited!) to receive what is in season, and eat according to the natural cycle of the growing season.

  • Depending on availability, the Farm may add specialty items to your box from neighboring farmers to increase variety. All specialty produce will be grown using Farm-approved, sustainable methods. In the event of a major crop loss on the farm, we do our best to substitute produce from our neighboring farmers. By purchasing a Membership from the Farm, you are agreeing to receive produce from neighboring farmers that meet our CSA standards. Any produce from a neighboring farmer will be indicated in your newsletter with additional information about who provided it.
